I write

I write to capture flying birds
To neatly arrange them in nests
And feed them
All on a baobab tree
Before they fly away
To be a blessing
To my eager and curious readers

Merry Christmas!!!

Wishing all my readers a Merry Christmas!!! Below is a poem I wrote a few days ago, based on Isaiah 53, while meditating on one of my recent quiet moments with God. This is truly the reason for His birth that we celebrate so joyously.

Title? I don't know whether, "Blue Christmas" or "Bloody Christmas" or "Red Christmas" will do. Still thinking about that. I share this for your enjoyment although it's lil' bit of a gloomy poem, I know. No worries! He's alive because He rose up!

A tender shoot
The tender shoot came up from dry ground.
How is that possible, farmers?

He was despised, rejected and held in low esteem.
When people saw him, they hid their faces from him.
Not worthy to look at?

He took the pain of others,
He bore the suffering of others,
He was afflicted
That's enough to get a person to the lowest of lows.

Because of my horrible sins, my wickedness
He, who knew no sin, didn't have to, didn't deserve to
took on my well-deserved punishment.
So that I may have peace
with God
with my fellow human beings.

A sheep gone astray.
Walking on the wrong path
How could I go back to the flock, my family?

But not without blood.
In His blood,
today I have peace.
The reason for Christ's birth.

Sovereign God-revised

This poem gets better. God was speaking to me, so I've revised it to reflect just that!

Sovereign God

I Am the Omniscient God

Will you acknowledge that I Am All Knowing

Thus admit that you know so little?

Trusting your Present

most importantly the Unknown Future

to Me, Who knows?

Ecc. 8:7

I am the Bounteous God

Will I be the Unlimited

Thus you acknowledge your poverty?

My Incomparable Riches, your storehouse of supply.

Philippians 4:19

I am the LORD of Lords.

Will you release control of your Everything,

All of your being to Me,

Who is LORD of All things?

I am the Almighty.

Will I be the All Powerful

Thus declaring your limitedness?

My Power, your strength and fortitude.

Philippians 4:13

Let's Pretend

I’ve never blogged about politics. It’s always a touchy issue, but I’m gonna have fun with it today, ok? I’ve sought to know nothing about the upcoming presidential elections in the US, ‘cos Ghana will also go to polls exactly a month after the Americans do. The Gold-land people have more than enough headaches to deal with, don’t we Ghana people? I’ve been defiantly saying, “I don’t care what Obama or McCain says or does,” but… I’ve been roped in somehow by the ubiquitous internet headlines; “Obama says this,” or “McCain says that.” Now the Sarah Palin & family issue makes it all the more interesting, huh? So let’s pretend that I were an African-American, eh? You know how to play the game, “Pretend,” right?

If I were an American, who would I vote for?

Obama or McCain?

I don’t know!

It’s nice that for once, an African-American is making history in the 21st century

I could vote for you simply on the basis of colour

But…

I’m not pro-choice when it comes to abortion

I won’t be party to killing innocent unborn, be it wanted or unwanted, abnormal or fit

I’ll not flout God-given biology in support of same sex unions

It’s gross, gross, gross

It’s nice to have a female running mate for once in American history

I could vote for you simply on the basis of femininity

But…

I’m just wondering how you will cope with family life while you’re out there in the front lines,

Receiving direct arrow shots from the international community?

Are you trying to trip me up with your pro-life birth choices?

Yes, I know you chose your last child over abortion, so does your teenage daughter

If I were an American, this is what I would do

I might choose not to vote at all

Or vote for one of them

Only that I don’t know who to vote for.

Remember this is a pretend game, so my opinions of American politics matters not. Besides it’s the vote that counts. And I’m going to vote for my next Ghanaian president, not an American president. It’s not a promise, but I might write a post of Ghana politics from my perspective sometime later or never.

Musings on the Sovereignty of God '07-1

I wrote this mid-last year. I was anxious about many things, uncertain about my future. Wavering between trust and anxiety. The poem came out of questions God asked me in response to my anxiety, self-pity and unstable emotions. He was steering me to Look Up to Him and see Him for Who He is and What He is able to do.

They were hard questions, but He couldn't have gotten my attention any other way, I guess.

Sovereign God

He is the Omniscient God.

Will He be the ALL KNOWING,

Thus admit that I know so little?

Trusting my Present,

most importantly the Unknown Future

to Him who knows?

Ecc. 8:7

He is the Bounteous God.

Will He be the UNLIMITED,

Thus acknowledge my poverty?

His incomparable riches, my storehouse of supply.

Philippians 4:19

He is the Lord of Lords.

Will He be LORD of my Everything,

Releasing control of my Everything,

All of me to Him?

He is the ALMIGHTY.

Will He be the ALL POWERFUL

Thus declaring my limitedness?

His POWER, my strength and fortitude.

THE NEW ME - THE MASAI WARRIOR

Hello blog readers and bloggie friends! I introduce to you one of my good friends who shares the same passion I have for writing. Our friendship goes way back, to the time when we were 5/6 years old. With her permission, I'm posting one of her poems that I love so much. I'd appreciate it if you do not re-post this poem on your blog or web. ~Thanks.~

THE NEW ME - THE MASAI WARRIOR

Out with the hassle,
Time for the tackle.

Enough on the defensive,
Ready for the offensive.

Been through my preparation,
All ready and out for my mission.

Away with problem reduction,
Time now for problem eradication.

Like the Masai warrior,
I quake not at your roar.

There, the Lion cower.
But I am no coward.

returned from a 2-3 year sojourn in Kenya.

Among the Masai men, from Kenya, a traditional test of manhood is killing a lion. And we all know the lion: a Big head, sharp carnivorous teeth, very calculating and with a very small waist.

For us Christian women and men, our spiritual tenacity is constantly tested and proved as we fight the devil who prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

With our spiritual weapons of the Word, the Name and Blood of Jesus Christ, Prayer and Praise, victory is ours. Christ assures us that victory is already ours.

8Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to... 1 Peter 5: 8-10 (NIV)

Brevity of Life

We only realise the brevity of life

as we grow older
but for us in Christ
Life never ends!

A Mystery as deep as the Sea

Eternal God, Eternal Trinity,

You are a mystery as deep as the sea;

The more I search, the more I find,

And the more I find, the more I search for you.

Heart of Hearts

The Heart of a Friend is Special
It teaches me to Love
That Crying is just another Expression of love
That Laughter is truly the Best Medicine
It teaches me to Bear All Things
That in the midst of disappointment, Hope is My Anchor
A person’s Heart is more precious than the outward countenance

The Heart of all Hearts is what I seek
The Love of all Loves is whom I seek

My poor love for His Indescribable Love
My short-lived happiness for His Bubbling Joy
My short life for His Eternal Life
My Ashes for His Beauty

I’m captivated by His Beauty
Awed by His Glory
I’m Enamoured
Ooooooh…!!!

No One Like YOU

In my weakness, You are my Strength
In my uncertainties, You are my Secure Hope for the future
In my limited knowledge, You are my Wisdom and Truth
In my faults, shortcomings and sins, You are my Saviour and Redeemer
In my restlessness, You are my Solid Rock
In my turmoil, You are my Peace
In my loneliness, You are my Friend
There is No ONE like YOU
